I don’t think anyone can learn fiction writing from McKee but his stuff is likely great for analyzing and fixing writing that isn’t working. It’s teaching surgery.

Robert McKee is the anti-Keith-Johnstone. Both in his theories of storytelling and how he teaches them. It’s an exhausting grind, like reading an encyclopedia cover to cover. Left vs right-brained writing. Kinda like regular art instruction vs Betty Edwards right-brain drawing.

This book is exhausting to read in part because it’s just an excruciatingly detailed table of contents with examples
