What are some interesting personal fitness moonshots that are NOT charismatic races (Boston marathon, iron man, tough mudder) OR famous climbs (Everest, El Capitan)?
Feels like a personal challenge domain dominated by a handful of charismatic mega goals.

Where does this fall: Hike the entire Appalachian Trail, in segments, over the course of a lifetime.

Just wrote about this! You point to something really important and I find underrated: harnessing the thrill of charismatic goals, mega or otherwise.

Squatting 2x your body weight.
If you’re obese (say, 350+ pounds), a weight loss journey culminating in deadlifting your starting body weight (literally lifting your old self off the ground) is poetic and epic.

Freediving. Like free soloing but underwater, can be v dangerous, incredible feats of endurance etc. Idk if there's a specific moonshot or just "who can go deepest" record chasing kind of thing

This is probably a charismatic mega goal too, but I liked it because of the personal connection to Shackleton's expedition newyorker.com/magazine/2018/
