So this season opener is basically the 7 samurai (Baby Yoda = 6) help the people of Deadwood and Sheriff Seth Bullock ally with the yak-riding Sandpeople of Rohan to kill Smaug, the sand worm of Dune that came to Tatooine from Arrakis.

Titus Welliver is in this one as holdout imperial captain, nice. I like how they have really solid actors in these small roles.

Ok Mandalorian is good, 3 episodes in. Better than all the movies. It’s like cyberpunk Ironman in space from planet of iron men.
It’s the art of gig, in space.

Feels like the big names kinda phoned in meh performances and signed up to do the Mandalorian just to check a personal bingo box. You can tell none of them are trying too hard to rise above the wooden dialogue.

The 9 movies really should be considered weak backstory/exposition for the Mandalorian as the main act. A bunch of short stories in a fragmented universe is really where the soul of this fictional universe lies. The footnotes are the main text. The main text is a big footnote.

I’m a fan of languid post-climatic wandering as in a posthistorical narrative landscape when the main story is over. Bobba Fett just showed up. Love that sort of loose-end story. On this canvas he looms larger than life. On the main one he’s a footnote. 9 years after.

If the 9-movies main story were better done this would feel like fan fiction. But here all the Mary Sues are in the movies.

Another movie that does this well is Spider-Man: Homecoming. My favorite plot device is that the Vulture got his tech from the debris of the battle for New York in Avengers. Footnote >> big story.
