My guess is the vitamin D level/Covid outcomes is just a proxy for a healthier lifestyle (diet, exercise, sun exposure, healthcare access, etc).

Even though some of those science nerds are my friends too, I am waiting on discussions between professional scientists and clinicians. The TWiV folks will probably discuss it in the next week or so

There are some things to consider for example vitamin D takes a while to reach high levels in your bloodstream when administered orally. There is a form of it that can be administered intravenously and reach high levels faster
