Starting to play with Arduino more. First I’ve fiddled with electronic assembly in ~20 years and the biggest learning is: middle-aged eyesight and finger dexterity suck. Reading resistor values and assembling even a simple circuit was more eye/finger strain than I expected.pic.twitter.com/ymrSZckHrZ

I haz digital inputs. These teeny switches were annoying to insert. I’m working through the Elegoo mega 2560 kit manual, one experiment every morning. Takes about 15-20 minutes. Right now focusing on the mechanical assembly skills, not really tweaking the canned sketches.pic.twitter.com/nwWYJPhQjK

Bought the helping hands too. Between that and the cheapie usb microscope. I’m set as far as vision issues are concerned for now.pic.twitter.com/VNNrldxKvX

This is the kit I’m working with. Will try to log my adventures on this thread systematically. Very good value. Just $50. Nicely packaged, good instructions and bug-free code samples so far. Digital inputs is experiment 5.https://www.amazon.com/EL-KIT-008-Project-Complete-Ultimate-TUTORIAL/dp/B01EWNUUUA/ …

You're rich enough to invest in a proper stereo zoom microscope. You will be amazed by all the things that you end up using it for (e.g. tiny splinters & reading IC codes), and you will only need it more as you get older.

I have a cheapo $35 usb microscope-camera that works pretty well... do you have a reco for the sort of thing you mean?

I have hundreds of hours of soldering experience. I dislike big magnifying glass things that seem to be standard issue. They get in the way, need constant repositioning, etc. I recommend visor. Size 2 for wearing all the time size 3 for smaller work.https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000EM98KM/

I've worked on lots of projects with other people and my visor-wearing goes like this: people make fun of me (it does look kind of silly), I enumerate advantages and generally evangelize, they get curious, they try it, then I need to buy extras because everyone borrows them.

reco model/link?

Lighting is super important too, lots of ways to solve that. I'm also not above wearing headlamp w my visor (have had to work in environments that I don't have much control over). If you're sensitive about looking like a nerd, this may not be for you LOL. I love Petzl headlamps.
