Twitter is doing that thing where it's trying to hook me by slowing down my follower growth just before hitting a big round number and may I be the first to admit that it's working.

I've seen others mention it and there was consensus that it is a thing.
Is it something I can provide any evidence for? Absolutely not.
It aligns with my experience, but huge potential for perception errors obviously.

One anecdotal observation is that normally I lose a lower single digit number of followers with each tweet and randomly gain 10-20 overnight.
Currently I'm not losing any with each tweet and no new overnight. No real change in tweet behaviour.
So maybe suppression of some kind.

More than likely.
But isn't it interesting how easily my brain can spot patterns in noise?
