What makes them useful is following "pick any two you like" by stating "you'll get both if you're lucky." Acknowledging this reveals your actual priority, in all its singular glory.

WHA?! Blasphemy! Hm, maybe pick-2 triangles are more legible about the compromises of the costs, but 2x2 includes superfluous information of the upside, downside, and side-sides. Or the 2x2 is the map but the pick-2 is the territory.

2x2s always have one uninteresting box, eg important/urgent - it’s not worth thinking about unimportant things that are not urgent. Maybe the pick-2 contains less waste?
