A Singaporean friend who worked at Siemens was telling me how we had to reorder mammogram machines from Japan because the German machines could not detect what they were meant to detect… because East Asian women have denser breast tissue.

Most needs aren’t that specific and there’s a cost to optimizing. So in general I have the opposite bias. I’ll generally take a broad generic over something narrowly optimized for me most of the time.
