Hehe, not getting an actual bluecheck back when they were handing those out like candy is one of the best marketing decisions I've ever made. Now I can say 'bluecheck' pejoratively even if I myself ascend to bluecheck levels of klout. Status legibility is the mind-killer.

I like indicators where they're important and you should act differently based on status knowledge, and the only way to know without explicit markers is by having Connections--unless the goal is to exclude those unwilling/unable to invest sufficiently in Knowing.

Twitter bluechecks are not that (and I could have easily gotten one when they started, but refused). They're sometimes used to tell impersonator from real, but more often used to give undue weight to the opinions of people who are talking out of their well-known asses.
