This is an interesting question. If I was selecting with a mind for others, I would say present, but if I was selecting for myself, I would say past. Knowledge is a burden if you see things clearly.

Complex. Mostly present, with time for reflection. Past-oriented to learn from your mistakes and adjust course. Future-oriented to figure out what path you want to be on moving forward. Then once you've set a path, present oriented for the day-to-day of enjoying the process.

I get what this means in a colloquial sense, but the only way to separate these is by thinking time spatially - forward, backward, here, etc. Actually living requires all of them equally - even riding a bike involves a whole series of muscle memories that are
