There’s going to be attempts to argue an equivalence here, but it’s important to keep in mind that even the Republican senate intelligence committee signed off on the Russia case. Whatever Trump makes up will be flimsy fiction. But his base will buy it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_interference_in_the_2016_United_States_elections …

For the record, I personally believe the interference had an effect, but not enough to affect result. It merely fed existing sentiment a bit. Trump won legitimately enough, and the biggest distortion came from domestic media coverage choices (ugly but not illegal) not Russia.

My problem with Trump regime was not its legitimacy, nor even its ideological leanings or low-grade self-dealing/profiteering. It was with their open attempt to destroy institutions, hold them hostage with ransomware tactics, and putting a bunch of foxes in to guard henhouses.

Cute, but let's maybe not do this? Process, memorialize, move on. This is borderline nyanyanyha territory.https://twitter.com/Travon/status/1324766589804142594 …

Well, is he wrong? Wake me up when Florida Man is no longer a meme. When Appalachia is not the punchline of a joke. When every Red State voter isn't told that "we" understand their political choices better than "they" do?

Why does it have to be political? It’s an indication of contempt. The politics comes when you assume that Florida Man is incapable of making his own decisions, that he does whatever his masters tell him, that 1/

In the context of the conversation “blue vs red” - yes, that seems political. Ive never seen it as “incapable of making decisions” or serving masters. Typically, it’s a string of poor decisions that make headlines and the meme is it’s all the same individual.

Seems like a reach that the blues look down upon this poor Florida man as a red that needs to be pitied. It’s the butt of a joke, same as NJ gets it, but never takes it personally.

Florida man is admired for sheer weirdness of messes he gets himself into. Tiger King style — he was gay I think? The basic Red Floridian is not a distinct species from the national version (except for the Cuban Republicans who differ in not being white)

Precisely, but I’m struggling to see how that plays into supporting the argument made above re: red voters being looked down upon.
