This evening’s shitposting theme... witchcraft, magick, prayers vs spells etc... Here’s a unifying diagnostic question: do you have a preference for science fiction over fantasy, and if so why do you think that is given the null hypothesis that both are equally escapist?

lot of replies from folks who clearly don't read fantasy or know much about the genre. It's fairly accepted within lit that the diff between SF&F is aesthetic-Orson Scott Card's "science fiction has rivets and fantasy has trees"-thus contemporary umbrella genre of speculative fic

okay how's this: the distinction remains an unsettled subject of debate (itself telling) amongst people who care to make a distinction. everyone not invested for reasons of bias or marketing uses the terms loosely/aesthetically or uses speculative fiction.
