hoping this means more ppl will start watching independent films. there's so many great movies on prime, etc that i only find out about bc i follow a lot of directors on twitter

Hmm, do you really think a regular information diet of TV is positive for mental health? Sure, it can entertain / distract / numb, but to me "medication" seems like a stretch.

Come on, it is medication in the same sense millions of people self medicate with marijuana or alcohol or whatever. Not the best but theere are definitely worse ways to self medicate and probably a reason why human nature gravitates towards such pastimes.
