Accusing opponents of wanting to do what you’ve already done... seems common enough it should already have a name. Projective suspicion?

Weird thing is it often sincere. Like a child accusing a parent of wanting to eat all the candy. Inability to conceive of intentions more sophisticated than your own. Adjacent to Dunning-Kruger.

This Tom Gauld joke is part of that dynamic. Simpler goals are more robust so the beget a false confidence in the fakeness/hypocrisy of more fragile goals.pic.twitter.com/aH2Y55JfAo

I didn’t use to believe this, but then I would see all these politicians and reverends, one after another, get busted for sex acts they were usually #1 at decrying, and then I started to think, you know, I’m rethinking that; I think it’s true, it happens.

Seems like a form of psychological projection - in this case of guilt. Justifying your actions and the subsequent projection by ‘if I don’t do it, somebody else will’ logic.

Increasing the number of judges definitely has the potential to unbalance the system in a very different way from refusing to confirm. They're just two different concepts. Both are constitutional, and both could be done for good or bad reasons. But only one is court-packing.

suspicion would be a doubt or belief in another's guilt from a place of innate insecurity whereas within this context there's also a level of entitlement- ie no other truth exists other than their own; ignorance
