Damn there’s still bits and pieces of colonial detritus strewn about on the world map. “New Caledonia” sounds made up almost. Apologies to any New Caledonian reading this. https://twitter.com/latimes/status/1312985873047326725…
271,000 people. No wonder it doesn’t want to be it’s own country. Way too much work. They’d be outsourcing everything anyway. Nobody should try to run a country under say 10 million people.
Yep
“Sunday’s independence referendum was among the final steps of longstanding plans to settle tensions on the archipelago between native Kanaks seeking independence and residents willing to remain in France.”
The world is too complicated. Nation states are officially too primitive for 2020. Here are a couple of tiny islands few could place on a map working out 200 years of baggage.
So basically ~130k people somewhere on an island in the Pacific want to tell France to go away.
That’s like just a bit larger than the U of M football stadium. Something either silly or genius about it.
Maybe we *should* organize in 130k political units. Stadium-states.
Stadium sized parliaments. Twitter hashtag as debate. Online votes. Strike belt-road deal with China to travel on Chinese passports and take loans from China to buy Chinese stuff. Sweet deal.
Literal stadium.
Each seat in the stadium represents 711,000 people of the nation.
If you don't like your seat or your representation:
lobby,
run for election,
move.
