It takes time to build a brand. Japan started building theirs almost 60 years ago. Just be patient (Chinese are).

China's so big it can kind of just... make iconic brands that are purely internal, maybe? To become a Japanese or Korean gazillionaire, you have to tap the world market in a big way.

I think this is a fairly predictable process - lots of post war Japanese brands rebranded a few times before they found ‘icon’ status, there’s a hierarchy of needs for companies too

Brands are built on a reputation for quality. When you're known for massive quantities of cheap stuff, kinda makes sense it would be hard to build a different brand, right?
