I remember in 2007 a partner at my previous employer saying that "the market is crashing in slow motion." In my experience, most crises seem to happen far more slowly in practice than my expectation. The pandemic seemed like that too - 2 months (January-March) of pandemic

2/ spread before people seemed to care about it (at least in the US.) Then panic before again a slow grind. I fear the undermining of our democracy is happening the same way. An interminable slow burn crisis that will eventually feel "sharp."
