Huh I seem to have tweeted similar thoughts about Brandon Routh 3 times at 2 years apart: 2015, 2017, 2019. Something about his graceful degradation trajectory appeals to me. Very wabi-sabi career energy.

Something zen and chill about Brandon Routh. Started big as the new Superman, which failed through no fault of his, played bit roles in B-shows like Chuck, landed in Arrowverse as B-team superhero the Atom, reprised Superman in it too. But good-humored/stable through it all.

Another person with this energy is Ralph Macchio. Even before he got an encore with Cobra Kai, he projected a very chill energy in, for eg, his appearance on Psych.

Entertainment news tends to focus on the train wrecks who can’t handle the aftermath of unexpected early spotlight (eg Macaulay Culkin) but the ones who handle it with grace are way more interesting people.

You’d think “did NOT spiral down into drugs and alcohol” is no story, but it is. Somewhere in the middle is Will Wheaton. Handled it well in public (cf Big Bang Theory, Eureka, audiobooks) but appears to have struggled a lot in private.

Hmm. Okay, Routh struggled more than I thought but still pretty graceful. And better than drugs and alcohol as he himself points out.

I think you underestimate what Routh went through: I think he's more in the Wil Wheaton camp with the baggage that he somehow messed up Superman (when, honestly, he was the highlight of Superman Returns). inverse.com/entertainment/
