Coming back to this idea, I suspect it’s now Roam vs Notion. Evernote is simply too old paradigm-wise. I haven’t explored notion much, but from what I’ve seen it’s a suite of point-optimal tools. There’s no overarching paradigm.https://twitter.com/vgr/status/1199575415393619968 …

Or possibly every tool has a foxy or hedgehoggy bias and this is the key stylistic difference between @fortelabs and @Conaw 🤔 Roam as hedgehog second brain for natural foxes, Evernote as foxy second brain for natural hedgehogs You two should do a podcast conversation together

Hedgehoggy paradigm for foxes vs foxy suite for hedgehog. Level up up of the old platform vs best-in-class debate. Trello: best in class (for karban) Notion: point-suite topology (heh!) around anchor features Roam: one paradigm to rule them all

Note though that kanban is not a paradigm, it’s a cosmetic process ontology with no deeper properties. Nested lists otoh feel foundational. Notion... haven’t used it enough to tell. I don’t think I made an account, but I’ve used others’ shared docs etc.

I have an account and used it a bit but it’s too isolated. Good for software teams and such. Not for me I think.

Evernote's key strength is that it's a labeled bucket that you can reliably and easily save to and access from anywhere - I haven't found anything else that does that cross platform with a minimum of fuss as well. (Haven't explored Roam etc though)

Roam vs. Notion vs. Evernote Roam: A programming language for ideas. Advanced-use only. Notion: Best for managing teams, databases, and recurring tasks. Evernote: The industry standard. Easy to use, but not as powerful as Roam. Personal knowledge management for the masses.

I recently learned about @ScrivenerApp from @the_jennitaur, and it shares some of the same "second brain" aspects of Roam, etc., but its UI is solely focused on creating a single work/body of writing, but there are some interesting parallels. You ever come across it?

I have been using scrivener for years. It's still my main pure writing app, but I'm actually transitioning a lot of my own notes from scrivener to roam.
