Reflecting on Marshall Plan, it strikes me that distasteful as it might seem to both sides, Blue America needs to craft a Marshall unPlan for Red America to avert a Cold War. It’s an 1830-project Jacksonian honor society that feels humiliatingly dependent on blue tax dollars.https://twitter.com/vgr/status/1286523087437983744 …

I’m arguing 3 things and it is not clear what part you object to 1. A big differential has emerged since 1980 for various reasons. Blue began thriving more economically. 2. It would be good if Red were to also begin thriving again economically 3. Blue can/should help

Sure; almost.. 2. I think the (well studied) economic effect of secondary industries (like the high-priced iPhones ubiquitous to the Bay Area and few others) makes the blue regions /more/ dependent on federal contracts and subsidies. 3. it's not a moral case, it's a practical one

Disagree on both. Blue team has its economic evils. I wouldn’t defend the financialization shennanigans from Wall Street for eg. Or the New York media circus. But there is an imperative to global economic vitality that Red team seems to have simply decided not to pursue.
