McConnell is unpleasant, but I find it weird that people call him a hypocrite for “shamelessly” flip-flopping on nomination principles. He sees himself as a general leading a legislative war in the battlefield of the senate, not as a collegial member of an institution at piece.

This is correct But they are also correct because they aren’t trying to convince him. But win a social capital war with others who want to position this as ethically justified move

There is no social capital to be won. The senate is ethically bankrupt and ethics optics games around it are deck chairs on the titanic. This sort of opining is not in service of tactical or strategic aims but output produced out of sheer instinct and habit. Like a baby crying.

I think some people genuinely believe there are undecideds/centrists who exist in large enough numbers for this to be a persuasive argument to materially affect the election outcome. It may end up being futile but I do think there is a well intentioned strategy behind it.
