Cf: this sort of silliness. There aren’t even any electorally useful rhetorical points to be gained with this sort of futile moral posturing.https://www.latimes.com/opinion/story/2020-09-18/ginsburg-death-mcconnell-nominee-confirmation …

Typo: “peace”, not “piece” in OT.
Though “in pieces” would work.

Like it would be honorable for a general to have troops lay down arms and toss flowers at the enemy
“...I argued that if she died, McConnell should do the consistent and honorable thing — and refuse to act on Trump’s nominee as a way to right the grievous wrong he did in 2016Show this thread

That analogy is like saying a general decried his troops for being tortured or gassed, and then when he wins a decisive battle he tortures and gasses the enemy.

It is distateful, but to dwell on it is to waste time. We would do better simply to ignore what he says, to account for his actions, and to move on. It will not cost him his supporters to point it out to them, b/c they see it the same way. All acceptable behavior in a war.

This is correct But they are also correct because they aren’t trying to convince him. But win a social capital war with others who want to position this as ethically justified move
-
There is no social capital to be won. The senate is ethically bankrupt and ethics optics games around it are deck chairs on the titanic. This sort of opining is not in service of tactical or strategic aims but output produced out of sheer instinct and habit. Like a baby crying.

i may be misremembering until ~2018 i think it was still fashionable to call mcconnell an "institutionalist" so it stands to reason that there are people who are still discovering that that's not particularly consistent with reality

The more politics is treated like war the more it becomes war, that's one of the problems with McConnell.
