There's a very simple litmus test for whether an idea is right or left of center. If someone is trying to convince you that you have more agency than you think, it's rightist. If they're trying to convince you that you have less agency than you think, it's leftist. Both bad.

Though also "you are more powerful than you think" = "ye are many, they are few!" And "you are less powerful than you think" = do not remove a fence unless you know why it was put there.

I would instead say this more accurately describes an authoritarian vs. libertarian, up/down dichotomy. Also, the degree of this definitely varies from country to country. There’s a big “othering” (finding the “evil-to-be-destroyed”) effect in the West that complicates this.
