First I’m hearing this idea, “cyberpunk was a warning, not a suggestion” I never thought of it as either. I thought of it as a prediction of an unavoidable near-future.

Unclear how it could have turned out any other way. No other speculative near-future from 80s was anywhere near as compelling.

The future doesn't just become history as part of some ineffable biological process. Political decisions are made that bring us closer to or push us further from any given future.
