I can’t believe the Wiki page doesn’t describe one key method: when it gets wedged in a log, swing it with the log still stuck (à la “full-lift chop”) but then *spinning it 180* at the top of the swing so it falls maul-first with the full weight of the log bearing into the wedge.

I’m mainly familiar with the separate hammer/axe-head combo. Not the combined version.

Just learned this recently from a woodworker guy. Figured it was like the back part of a hammer but huge. Made for grippin and rippin. Instead it's just a sledge
