I did finally get both those bookcases anchored to the wall (with a burger break in between) btw
The first one is a friggin mess
The second one is nearly perfect
C'est la vie

I would have liked to tell my ultra-handy dad the story of stripping screws, missing studs, mis-sized pilot holes, etc. We could have traded DIY war stories.

I actually avoid drilling anchors for things like bookshelves into studs. Stud anchoring feels a bit too heavy duty to me, so I rely on overloading lower shelves, and drywall anchors... and generally going for shorter furniture.

unfortunately it was necessary for these (allegedly), they are to prevent or I guess at least slow the disaster that ensues if a child climbs the bookcase

Is this like a girl hack or something? My wife uses command strips so much I make jokes about her trying to cure cancer with them.

haha maybe. is a fan too. I have unpacked several large ziploc bags of our hooks and this place will start to feel like home once I start tossing 'em up
