ugh rookie mistake, stripped a screw that’s half in
was trying to work in small space reaching up. I should have made more space and gotten on ladder to push straight in2 replies 0 retweets 5 likesShow this thread -
I also missed one of the studs and could tell it was only drywall by the feel

I did finally get both those bookcases anchored to the wall (with a burger break in between) btw The first one is a friggin mess The second one is nearly perfect C'est la vie

I would have liked to tell my ultra-handy dad the story of stripping screws, missing studs, mis-sized pilot holes, etc. We could have traded DIY war stories.

I actually avoid drilling anchors for things like bookshelves into studs. Stud anchoring feels a bit too heavy duty to me, so I rely on overloading lower shelves, and drywall anchors... and generally going for shorter furniture.

unfortunately it was necessary for these (allegedly), they are to prevent or I guess at least slow the disaster that ensues if a child climbs the bookcase

we have several small bookcases that I never bothered anchoring and feel ok about that but two that go almost to the ceiling and my baby son is turning out to be a climber

I had actually never used a drill to attach anything to the wall before! for everything else I cheat and use several large removable 3M Command hooks, canvas hangers, or velcro strips

Is this like a girl hack or something? My wife uses command strips so much I make jokes about her trying to cure cancer with them.

haha maybe.
@diviacaroline is a fan too. I have unpacked several large ziploc bags of our hooks and this place will start to feel like home once I start tossing 'em up1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -
Yeah I use command hooks and strips a lot... but I have drilled into both the drywall with anchors and the studs pretty often too.
