Superglue plus ratchet strap. Not great. Awkward trying to get it right. I might paint the glue seam golden and call this my first kintsugi

Do not tempt the log-level gremlin gods of cracks and frays. Do all your repair work on the dl. Do not tweet about it unless the likelihood of helpful suggestions exceeds that of gremlin attention. The universe is in a delicate balance between the platonic angels and gremlin gods

It’s a soft plastic sheath over foam over rigid core, and sheath is under tension, like a sock over a foot. So bears a light pre-stress load that is increased by stretching when an arm rests on it. I think the glue will hold.
