Ikea stuff gets a bad rap, but I have to say, it's been very durable for me. Some of my Ikea stuff has lasted over a decade and a dozen moves.

I think it's also how you assemble it. Sometimes people assemble them not at the optimal firmness and then things collapse. If you are making sure to be firm when assembling, then yeah it's pretty durable.

Yup, a little wood glue goes a long way, as wells as tightening a few screws.
There's two tiers of IKEA furniture–once you get an eye for it, you can figure out which stuff is the good stuff (often just stuff that isn't rock bottom priced, though the LACK table does decent).

If you get the “nicer” version it’s as good as the thing you’d pay 3-5x for at crate and barrel

I would say in particular their assembly manuals get more shade than they deserve. It's way better than anything else I've seen. If you can't match objects to images maybe that says more about yourself then the manual.

Just assembled a desk last night that seemed pretty sturdy. I have a bunch of bookshelves, etc for the past 10-15 years.
