Yeah I didn’t want to say anything but there have been a rash of articles about “rediscovering the ancient Japanese art of X” lately that have been problematic (orientalism) and have also somehow sucked all the fun out of the original thing (eg forest bathing is a nice activity)

I should probably clarify that I was talking about kintsugi as a DIY hobby or amateur pursuit. As for what you’re getting when you pay 700 bucks for a professional to do it for you ... I have no idea. Better materials maybe? But probably similar process.
