It’s not really an either/or choice when 3D printers are so much cheaper & can take up so much less space. There’s not really any downside to getting a cheap small printer to start with. There’s also less setup involved since with PLA you don’t have to worry about ventilation.

Remember reading about some concern about plastic particulate pollution from FDM machines with materials like PLA. The resin printers don't have that potential problem and they are easier to use ime but they are more expensive.

If you plan to design your own parts, the real work is learning the modeling software. Getting the piece fabricated is something you can then order.
