I got a free Tile a couple of years ago and put it on my keys. It’s still got juice left, but the app keeps prompting me that it’s time to replace it (irreplaceable battery). Is there a reasonable approach to making such devices run on ambient energy?

The tile pro has a user replaceable battery

It’s still not a self recharging thing like solar though

I tend to lose my tiled things (keys, remotes, etc) in places without sunlight. I replaced the tile with the pro ones so I can change batteries when alerted. Not the greatest, but the utility of the tiles outweighs the battery issue for me.

As long as it moves regularly it could use a self charging mechanism https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatic_watch …

I had tile and the irreplaceable model made me mad too. I have a solar powered "ekster" card for my wallet now.

Looks like promising future tech for this purpose. Will be interesting to see how Apple’s work should they ever release themhttp://news.mit.edu/2020/everactive-sensors-0820 …
