After years of lugging around an embarrassing plastic dad-bin of cables, adapters, and connectors across like a dozen apartment moves, FINALLY it pays off. Needed a 12V, 2 amp AC adapter for the used telescope I just got and I *actually found one* in my Bin of Shame.

One day I swear I’ll find a use for the RS-232 phone jack I’ve been lugging around for 20 years. Might even be this year, since this telescope has an RS-232 aux port. I don’t know what it’s for but maybe I can do something with it.

New life ambition: build/own/operate a small junkyard behind my mansion. There will be a room just for orphaned AC adapters and cables/connectors. Vindication is sweet.

Have you done a CBA of the value of the cable? Could be you go through all that effort every year just to save tops 11 bucks

Don't fall for the shame tactics. One day those critics are going to need a Lexmark printer cable for a world-saving fax and I'm going to be there to gloat.

ngl it feels good to slim down the box to a shoebox size and you can still keep a one each for the apocalypse or maybe just the future so you can show your grandkids just how universal usb connectors were

Cost of materials trend to zero, cost of interconnections, information flow, entropy trends to infinity.

I organized my 45 pound tub of random cables during shelter in place. It has paid off in peace but I have still had to buy more random cables and adapters because they are all obsolete.

I once went through my bin of shame and had very little remorse as I placed parallel cables, far too many old network cables, and serial devices into a pile for electronics recycling.
