Interesting how apartment complexes, aka people clouds/datacenters, range from bare metal to lifestyle as a service. This place for eg. has far too little counter space and clearly needs an island, so away we go to Ikea to buy one...

A kitchen island for open-concept main living areas is kinda a must. Arguably a part of the bare metal level. But I'd rather have more square feet and no island than island, but less square footage.

But this means if you move a lot, you have to be prepared to do anything from just calling lambda functions to run your life (fully furnished/appointed) to building linux yourself (one or more key appliances missing... 3 apartments ago, we didn't have in-unit washer/dryer)
