Lol... spent most of my summers there in the 80s as a kid. Spent lots of time in gandhipuram, crosscut road, taking #7 bus, the park with the toy train. Good times. Changed a lot since then.

haha, I've walked the same roads and taken the same buses as you, except it's in the 90s and 00s
Today there's more people, more pollution, more pandemic, but still recognizable

Yeah I’ve noticed. Last few visits have been short, less than a week, and mostly home with parents. Back then it used to be 4-6 weeks. Biggest difference is huge number of cars and motorcycles everywhere. Back then it was mostly walking, bicycles, and autos.

Major pop explosion. Took over Madurai as 2nd largest city in TN in a decade. Transport infrastructure hasn't kept up so all this new human mass is clustered around same roads from before the pop explosion Finding a parking spot used to be no.1 headache before pandemic landed.

The city is located in the right place to last thousands more years though. Far away from rising oceans, climate change driving more rain into what used to be arid land due to being on the shadow of the ghats... if we could only get our transport/utility infra right
