Damn. So many newsletter. How will it all end? A typical New Yorker/Economist grade magazine bundling a variety of writers costs $100-$200/year. Typical substack is $50-$150 for a single writer. With the same budget you’re replacing a magazine with 1-3 individual writers.

Already see this with a friend who writes for a mma website based on subscription revenue. Ads coming back but in more of a influencer style fashion way, not programmatic.

Ads won't come back. Only two possibilities here: 1. Social tokens. Creators will sell digital cryptocurrencies and sell writings via tokens, allowing the free market to curate information via price signals. 2. GPT goes apeshit and all curation/writing is done via AI.

A lot of the value I get from a newsletter is hyper-specialization, something that gets watered down from bundling. A lot of newsletters also offer a clubhouse community like a private discord. Unclear if a magazine can match that.
