I abuse language a lot in my writing both for lulz and specific rhetorical effects, but I do it pretty deliberately to match intent to abuse, and try not to debase language itself. Trumpist language abuse is also deliberate but is usually intended to debase language itself.

This is one reason recent SCOTUS decisions have been interesting. They buck trumpist ideology not just politically, but by defending an institution — careful language — he wants to debase.

Debasing language is like randomly editing code and expecting it to run. Language is very much like software code, especially in the functioning of delicate but high-performance institutions. I really appreciate quality institutional communications. Or even just aiming at quality

You can’t trust an institution that lacks basic competence (and interest in competence) in its own boilerplate.
