Meta comment: I get the most new insight into strategy from people like Taylor who slowly circle the core themes over years rather than attempting to definitevely “address” them. Strategic thinking is a sensibility inhering in a set of questions you ask repeatedly, not a “skill”

It's interesting to me how much of my writing overlaps and links back to other pieces. A seeking density in the gonzo theatre effect that just seems to naturally happen.

I like this. I find myself going around & around the same topics but, sometimes, with a fresh perspective. It’s hard to be definitive about anything I just try to capture what I think is closest to my understanding at any given moment (also intermittent impostor syndrome helps!)

1. List or define the core themes.
2. Then you can circle them all you want.
Avoid 1 and there is nothing to circle around.

Strategic thinking just means looking at the world from the view point of an agent - someone who can act upon the world. It’s hard to write about or teach, because you can’t really teach agency. It has to be done not shown
