Running a deliberate eugenics program is unseemly in 2020, but it’s okay to look the other way and let a virus aimed in approximately the direction you want do the work. Running a deliberate institutional eugenics program (destroying ones you don’t like) is still ok though.

I’m struck by the eerie parallels between the virus disproportionately killing old/poor/black people and the trump regime disproportionately killing old/dysfunctional/humanist institutions.

In both cases, it’s been a 1-2 punch following a “slowly, then all at once” pattern. Punch 1: a slow force beyond human control weakens a whole class of entities. Globalization eats vulnerable humans, software eats vulnerable institutions. Both have proved stronger than politics
