Saw a video I can’t find of a cat missing both front legs playing energetically with a kitten. Kinda amazing how animals seem to easily cope with what would be severe body image trauma in humans. Anyone been with a pet that’s been through an amputation? How quickly do they adapt?

Too lazy to look it up but isn‘t it a well-known finding that humans, too, adapt back to baseline happiness within months in the face of severest blows e.g. amputations? Maybe humans are less conspicuous about it bc they’re more self-conscious, but directionally same phenomenon.

If you handicap/adjust for the potential emotional drag caused by a human’s advanced cognitive capacity („Hey meatspace substrate - here‘s your daily reminder that a year ago you had two legs and could walk by yourself“) I‘m not sure what I find more amazing tbh.
