Maybe wire services like AP/Reuter’s should just expand their coverage and offer consumer products

The National Post (Canada, Kindle) seems to be taking something like that approach (their choice though, not mine) and it's much better than the various garbage I was subscribed to before.

It was a
implementation. Article selection from the major outlets was curated and not X free articles of your choice. You had access to what someone wanted you to have access tooThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Curating is a challenge

don’t want curation. Just aggregation

@SubstackInc might get there. The bundle you want seems to be articles or authors.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

You just hit on what might be the next big thing. I cannot afford to subscribe to all the magazines I want to read, but I'll pay per article to read a bit from each of them. (next if you'd start a cable company with only my chosen channels........) Blendle eh?

Once had an idea for an article based tiered subscription model through a news reading app where people paid for a certain number of articles a month, could read that many articles from any publication that was on board, and publications got cut of subscription and ad dollars.
-
Basically, bring content streaming model to reading articles, but with more unitization of content. Was always doubtful such a product could take off though given major publications would never want to cede that much power and control.

Those economics don’t work to supply the quality of news you want to consume.
