Someone needs to monetarily disintermediate newspapers for their own good. As in b8ndled cable not Facebook. They’re terrible at owning direct audience relationships. I’d pay $10/mo for say my choice of 100 articles from a buffet of 20 newspapers. Didn’t Apple try that?

The National Post (Canada, Kindle) seems to be taking something like that approach (their choice though, not mine) and it's much better than the various garbage I was subscribed to before.

It was a 💩 implementation. Article selection from the major outlets was curated and not X free articles of your choice. You had access to what someone wanted you to have access too

You just hit on what might be the next big thing. I cannot afford to subscribe to all the magazines I want to read, but I'll pay per article to read a bit from each of them. (next if you'd start a cable company with only my chosen channels........) Blendle eh?

Once had an idea for an article based tiered subscription model through a news reading app where people paid for a certain number of articles a month, could read that many articles from any publication that was on board, and publications got cut of subscription and ad dollars.
