Big takeaway from this book I’m almost done with: irrelevant/useless/parasitic zombie elite institutions can stay alive longer than you can stay revolutionary. Tldr: maladaptive Middle Ages culture kept going for 50 years after Black Death supposedly dealt it a death blow.

We’re at a John Wyclif Lollards moment rather than a Martin Luther reformation moment. The Industrial Age is sort of at a two-antipopes moment. America as Avignon, China as Rome.
