The answer I found to this question was small goldilocks cities. - 50k-150K (sweet spot of pop range) - nature (mountains/beach/lake/forest etc) - atleast moderately culture-rich - per capita income > avg of the country - openness/friendly to 'outsiders' (students/travelers etc)

yeah, exactly. After ~3 years of backpacking/nomading, I found this city to be worthy of being my homebase. Still open to moving around, but this is the current base for at least 1-2 years.
