Second, without covid the bet would have been much tricker to call. Once Trump was elected I conceded that a much more chaotic Darkest Timeline was unfolding than just the usual post-economic-crisis hangover. But the synchronized shocks of 2020 greatly accelerated things.

I dunno, still seems pretty peaceful and pretty prosperous. I don't think you named specific conditions but if you had I bet Venkat would have lost... What concrete conditions would you have named whereby the Bay Area isn't peaceful and prosperous?
