One good reason to write detective fiction in a fixed world with a sidekick viewpoint character who grows is to harmonize reader/writer experiences

I liked the one about snacks also.

Always love when someone in a story eats tasty snacks. Take not writers; more sugary sweets.

I’ve read a couple things by you over many years, not necessarily knowing the pieces were by the same author. A friend recently told me I would really enjoy your writing. Since then, I have been working my way through consuming & considering everything longform you’ve published.

Tempo is fascinating. Very different from your more recent work, which is lighter and less structured. All of it feels inspired. Your many-thought-threads writing approach is also validating to me as I do a less cogent/more rambly version of the same (ex https://adambrault.com/blog/community-minded-leadership-ambition-and-empathy …)

Depends on the quality of prose. There are things read by people who’ve extracted much more value from them than what the writer might have originally intended. What needs to happen in order to more regularly achieve this effect is a worthwhile topic in-itself to write about.

The Gervais Principle series of essays supremely influenced me in 2011, made me realize why I didn't have equity in Vostu, outmaneuvered by sociopaths! I tried to adopt sociopath powers aspirationally, but it wasn't a good fit for my personality. You've been highly influential.

Mmmmm... Keep going.
