The cultural distance between black and white america seems higher than that between white america and most of the world (including africa I suspect). Considered as a separate nation, black america is pretty much unique in the world. There's no other nation like it in both highly positive and highly negative ways. It's a bit like Japan. A sort of n=1 set that's a universe unto itself.

That's a weird way to look at it. Comparing a minority group to a foreign majority group. This is blunt, but if you view it compared to other minority groups that actively define themselves as opposed to the majority group... you get closer: Jews, gypsies

minority status is often the basis of secessionist movements... pakistan from india, india from bangladesh, tibet from china, eritrea from ethipia... often including lots of migration to the breakaway part
