Me: supergirl, legends of tomorrow, 4400. Can’t really find good middlebrow normie mainstream stuff I haven’t at least tried before. These are all shows I tried and gave up on as too B-grade/mechanical before but am now lowering standards and watching. A-grade middlebrow is rare.

Waiting for the post-Covid era of grimdark-everyman-normie shows. Superhero, “chosen people” type stuff will go into recession. Rick and Morty is the reductio ad absurdum of a 30 year cycle of increasingly ridiculous “I am special” narrative premises.

2x2: Ordinary vs special protagonists, comic vs drama. Ordinary+drama was pretty rare. I actually can’t think of a single example of that.

I’m kinda sad that most tv shows become kinda unwatchable if you wait too long for a first watch through (reruns are different). Half the stuff I kinda had my eye on is now too dated.

Really curious how writers will try to capture the post-doom mood of the times in premises. How do you even situate a sitcom now? Interesting exercise to try and transpose pre-covid premises to post-covid shows. What would post covid Seinfeld be like?
