Libertarians have been banging the inequality vs suffering drum since Piketty. Unfortunately often it’s left shallow rather than explored ie dropping consumer goods prices mean welfare has shot up etc

This cuts both ways. Lower inequality is an important goal for reasons of simple moral intuitions. It holds even if said inequality *doesn't* cause suffering. A tolerable situation is necessary but not sufficient for justice. Wireheaded slaves are still slaves.

Example: Mike Bloomberg has 60 billion dollars. During the presidential debates, he claimed to have earned it because he worked hard for it. Everyone laughed at that, because it is not plausible that Mike Bloomberg works 100,000x as hard as is typical.

It is hard to talk about suffering and pain in any objective way https://twitter.com/gplewis/status/1208080587828805632?s=21 … there is no scale, and arguing legitimacy is a game everyone loseshttps://twitter.com/gplewis/status/1208080587828805632 …
