People act like the alt-stack is just a set of nice-to-have bandaids that are making the crisis a little more pleasant and convenient, with the main tradeoff being handled by the mature stack. No it’s not, it’s what’s making the tradeoff possible at all.

Quite possible, most likely in infosec. We were doing a bad job of handling infosec in the old stack, and in the new stack it's an order of magnitude more important. Huge opportunity for bad actors. (Even more so if e-voting turns out to be a key part of the new stack.)
