Is it just me or are too many smart people are still underestimating how bad the economic damage is going to be?

Not just you. The V-shaped recovery religion has turned into a cult of insane optimism

do you think that optimism is warping how we're handling it? seems like an improper reckoning with the tradeoffs (ie belief that we can last for 1-2 years with full shutdown, etc)

I think because we're on pause with no real info coming in were referencing Feb2020 as the future goal.

It's strange because it's not even just people who are optimistic about other things

I’m not making predictions either way but I’m curious as to why people think we will not get back to normal a year so after Corona. What would have permanently changed for the worse?

The most maddening aspect is that so many v-tards act like they're being mischievous contrarians and not just parroting Kushner and Kudlow

How much of this is people attempting serious prediction about the future? My instinct is that the recovery might end up being better than expected, but it's just some weird gut feeling.

Just offhand, seems like a situation where if we all make the same incorrect assumption that assumption will prove to have been much closer to the truth than if we had not, sort of a Prisoner's dilemma type thing.

"Insane optimism" strikes me as a fine, colorful way of saying "denial."

Who actually believes in a V curve recovery? I must be living in a bubble.
